SOULFREE FOUNDER RECEIVES KALPANA CHAWLA AWARD – Preethi Srinivasan was bestowed with the prestigious Kalpana Chawla award, on August 15, 2017, by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

This is the first time a person with #disability has ever received this award, so Preethi is proud to receive it on behalf of those with physical challenges and feels blessed to be the face and voice of the positively-abled.

“Quite honestly, I didn’t even know this award existed and have no idea ofthe procedure to get nominated for it. My deepest gratitude goes to Mr Prashant Wadnere, the district collector of #Thiruvannamalai, who deemed me worthy of this honour and filed my nomination. I also wish to convey my heartfelt thanks to Mrs Joncy, the district disability Ofc of Thiruvannamalai who stayed with us throughout and ensured our safety and comfort.

Above all, I’m grateful to the Government of Tamil Nadu for recognising my efforts to raise awareness about spinal cord injury and improve the quality of life of persons living with this currently incurable condition in #India. I truly hope this will be just the beginning, because there is a lifetime of work and more to be done.

As always, I wish to reiterate that all the credit goes to my mother, Vijayalakshmi Srinivasan for her untiring efforts to keep me alive; my friends, who have stood by me steadfastly through thick and thin; Soulfree’s dedicated volunteers, without whose hard work and committed efforts, I wouldn’t be able to accomplish much at all; and perhaps most of all, each and every one of you who has showered your good wishes, support, encouragement and blessings upon me throughout my journey. Thank you all!”
